*PUBLIC NOTICE*REST IN PEACE SHELDON LEWCOCK

Updated: Sep 22

At last the family of Sheldon Lewcock have the justice that they had only prayed for..

Angela Lewcock spoke with Yvonne YEW Reading Caribbean Express News within months of the murder of her son Sheldon Lewcock.

Angela and her family seemed out any which way to ensure that the good memories and his death would not be in vain.

They protested in Forbury gardens, they protested outside the Reading Thames Valley Police (Central), the family kept Sheldon’s memory alive by sharing with the community, the community where Sheldon was most known amongst friends and family, whilst seeking justice for his life !

The justice served up today leaves a bitter sweet taste in the mouth.

1. Sheldon should be alive today.

Too many young people in Reading are subjected to violence, Knife crime and to threatening situations that they should not be subjected to. Or be exposed to.

There has to be more done in protecting young people. Since the COVID era mental health has been rife.

There needs to be in place for young people who are undergoing such difficulties immediate support.

The help and support groups who are available to support young people are busting at the seams. They all need extra funding so that they can function in its full capacity and provide full support of the young people who they are trying to support.

Whilst I diverted slightly away from Sheldon’s court case, I believe that Sheldon’s death reveals the extent that some will go in order to run, hide and try to resist the hands of the law so that they can be brought to justice.

Although, it has taken a few years for Sheldon to receive the acknowledgment: You have not died in vain Sheldon. Your family are proud of you, miss your joviality and physical body and your spirit in their home.

I will leave you with the report so that there is a full understanding; families will stand against injustice in seeking justice for their loved ones. And so it is with the parents and families of Sheldon Lewcock.

Following an investigation by Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit, a man has been jailed for the manslaughter of Sheldon Lewcock in Tilehurst.

Ryan Willicombe, aged 19, of Home Straight, Newbury, was sentenced to a total 10 years and eight months in a young offenders institution at Reading Crown Court yesterday (19/9).

Willicombe was sentenced to eight years and eight months for the manslaughter of Sheldon Lewcock, and two years for being concerned in the supply of crack and cocaine to run concurrently.

He was also disqualified from driving for 12 years and six months and was ordered to forfeit the drugs and mobile phone found on him.

Willicombe was convicted by a unanimous jury verdict of manslaughter, at the same court, on 8 May.

He previously pleaded guilty to death by dangerous driving.

The jury found Willicombe not guilty of the murder of Sheldon, and attempted GBH of Kayden Williams.

At approximately 6.10pm on 4 August 2022, 19-year-old Sheldon and Kayden were riding e-bikes on Pierces Hill, when a van, driven by Willicombe, was on the wrong side of the road, and hit Sheldon.

Sheldon was taken to hospital, where sadly he died five days later.

Willicombe was arrested the following day and following a thorough investigation was formally charged on 27 September 2023.

On 24 July 2023, Willicombe was convicted of two counts of being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and heroin, after an incident in Thatcham in January 2023.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Alice Broad, said: “This has been a difficult and complex investigation and I would like to again pay tribute to the family of Sheldon Lewcock at this difficult time.

“The sentencing will never bring closure to Sheldon Lewcock’s family but I hope it will go some way in helping the grieving process knowing the person responsible has been jailed for Sheldon’s manslaughter.”
