At a special Council meeting to be held on 8th June, the Council is set to approve updated costs to ensure the delivery of the upgraded Leisure facilities at Rivermead and the new swimming pool at Palmer Park.
The Council has also applied for a grant from Sport England to help cover part of the cost.
As well as a 6-lane 25m long swimming pool at Palmer Park, there will be:
• A 100-station gym with three studios
• An activity zone for children with party rooms,
• A new café and information hub.
The stadium building is also going to be refurbished. The new facility is set to open in early 2023.
Labour’s Cllr Graeme Hoskin, the Lead Councillor for Health, Wellbeing & Sport says: ‘Despite the unprecedented challenges of the past year I’m really pleased that we are now on the verge of starting the building of our new pools and leisure centres.’
