With this year marking the introduction of PIP following the Welfare Reform Act of 2012, Reading Welfare Rights is launching a new research project into whether it is, or has ever been fit for purpose.
A humane approach to welfare begins by recognising the most vulnerable members of society and devising a system enabling them to express their needs with dignity. We want to know a) is the application process accessible to those who need it, b) how relevant the assessments are to the outcomes and c) the barriers to claiming.
We naturally have our own opinions from working in this field, but we want to hear firsthand from claimants or those who have thought about claiming. We have put together a survey to gather as many views as we can, and we would be grateful if you could share it with your networks. It is completely anonymous and anyone who has any experience of going through the PIP application process is welcome to take part, whether for themselves or on behalf of someone they know.
