The Council will be introducing a borough-wide Smoke Control Area in Reading on 1 December after receiving government approval.
The new rules to help improve air quality will allow the Council to take enforcement action to prevent smoke being emitted from the chimney of any building in the borough.
Public Health England estimates that solid fuel burning now accounts for more than 30% of local particulate emissions which are harmful to health. 62% of Reading borough is already in a smoke control area.
